LIMBANG – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Limbang successfully destroyed a large hornet nest at a residence in Kampung Lubok Lasas, Jalan Medamit, on the night of 17 June 2026.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an emergency call at 9.14 pm through the TMRC system.
Acting swiftly, four members of the Alpha Squad, led by Pbt. (PA) Awang Muhd Azwardi Bin Mohamad, departed from PKOD at 9.25 pm. The team travelled approximately 34 kilometres and arrived at the scene at 10.06 pm.
Upon inspection, officers discovered a ground hornet nest attached to the wall of the complainant’s house.
The nest was described as being the size of a Hilux tyre, posing a significant threat to the safety of the occupants.
To neutralise the danger, the team employed the Ridsect insecticide spray method, which successfully eliminated the colony.
The operation was carried out with strict adherence to safety procedures, ensuring no harm came to the residents or responders.
The complainant was reported to be in good condition, and no injuries or property damage occurred during the intervention.
The mission concluded at 11.35 pm, with the team returning to PKOD at 12.18 am. The Civil Defence Force highlighted that the operation demonstrated their readiness to respond to emergencies at any time of day or night.
Hornets are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe pain or allergic reactions.
Large nests in residential areas pose serious risks, particularly to children and elderly residents. The authorities continue to remind the public to report such hazards promptly rather than attempting removal themselves.
APM Limbang reiterated its commitment to community safety, emphasising that its personnel are prepared around the clock to respond to threats and disasters.
The force encouraged residents to contact them directly at 085-210471 or use the national emergency line 999 in urgent situations.
The successful destruction of the hornet nest in Kampung Lubok Lasas reflects the professionalism and dedication of Sarawak’s emergency services.
It also underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation between the public and authorities in maintaining safety across the district.
