The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that it received an emergency call from school staff reporting the presence of the wasp nest. The insects had gathered beneath the roof structure, raising fears of potential stings to pupils and staff.

APM officers were immediately dispatched to the site to assess the situation. Upon arrival, the team conducted a safety inspection and identified the nest.

Using insecticide spray methods, the officers neutralised the colony and ensured the area was safe before declaring the operation complete.

The intervention was carried out with caution and in line with safety procedures. No injuries or property damage were reported, and the school resumed normal activities after the operation.

The authorities highlighted that the swift response demonstrated their readiness to handle insect-related hazards in public spaces.

Naning wasps, like other stinging insects, can pose serious risks when nesting near populated areas. Their stings are painful and may trigger allergic reactions in vulnerable individuals.

Schools are particularly sensitive locations, as children are more likely to be affected by such threats. The Civil Defence Force stressed the importance of community vigilance and cooperation.

Residents and institutions are encouraged to report similar cases promptly rather than attempting removal themselves. Emergency teams are trained and equipped with protective gear to manage such operations safely.

This latest case in Lundu reflects the ongoing commitment of Sarawak’s emergency services to safeguard communities from environmental hazards.

Similar operations have been conducted across the state, especially during warmer months when insect activity increases.
