LUNDU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Lundu successfully handled a snake-catching operation on Thursday, 18 June 2026, after receiving a public complaint about a reptile spotted in Kampung Sebigo.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that the emergency call reported the presence of a ring snake resting on a jackfruit tree.
Concerned for the safety of nearby residents, the complainant immediately contacted the Lundu/Sematan PKOD to request assistance.
APM officers were swiftly deployed to the location to assess the situation. Upon arrival, the team conducted a safety inspection and identified the snake.
Using standard procedures, the officers carefully captured the reptile to prevent any harm to the community. The operation was completed without incident, and no injuries were reported.
Ring snakes, while not considered among the most venomous species, can still pose risks if provoked. Their presence in residential areas often causes alarm, particularly for families with children or elderly members.
Wildlife encounters of this nature are not uncommon in Sarawak, where rural and semi-rural communities frequently share space with native species.
The Civil Defence Force reminded residents that attempting to catch snakes without professional assistance can be dangerous.
Trained personnel are equipped with protective gear and safe handling techniques to manage such situations effectively. Authorities continue to encourage the public to report sightings promptly to ensure swift intervention.
This latest case highlights the readiness of emergency services in Lundu and Sematan to respond to wildlife-related incidents.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its commitment to community safety, stressing that its officers are prepared to act quickly and with integrity whenever threats arise.
