UDC Event 2026

The event marked the continuation of a specialised assistance initiative designed to help local constituents secure valid Malaysian driving licences through structured training and rigorous testing.

Held at SMK Min Lit in the Batu Kawah area, the programme saw the participation of 336 candidates. These individuals underwent the second and third phases of practical training, which are critical components in the licensing process.

The large turnout underscores the high demand for such supportive measures within the constituency, providing a streamlined pathway for learners to demonstrate their competency behind the wheel.

The initiative is formally known as the DUN N.14 Batu Kawah Driving Licence Assistance Program, often referred to by its acronym BLM.

It represents a strategic partnership between several key entities, including the DUN N.14 Batu Kawah Service Center, the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the M.K.M. Driving Institute.

By combining resources and expertise, these organisations aim to reduce barriers to licensure while maintaining high standards of driver education.

YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, who serves as the Deputy Premier of Sarawak and the Assemblyman for N.14 Batu Kawah, was present to oversee the proceedings.

His visit allowed him to personally inspect the implementation of the tests and engage with both the participants and the staff facilitating the event.

His presence highlighted the state government’s commitment to ensuring that such community-focused programmes are executed effectively and reach those who need them most.

The collaboration ensures that every aspect of the training and testing process adheres to established procedures and regulatory standards. Officers from the JPJ Sarawak Driver Licensing Division were on site alongside representatives from the M.K.M. Driving Institute.

Their joint effort guaranteed that the assessments were conducted in an orderly manner, providing a fair and professional environment for all candidates.

The primary objective of this assistance programme extends beyond merely issuing licences. It is deeply rooted in the goal of producing drivers who are not only competent but also disciplined and responsible.

In a region where road safety is a paramount concern, initiatives that prioritise proper training can have a lasting impact on reducing accidents and fostering a culture of caution among road users.

JPJ Sarawak has expressed optimism regarding the continued success of this model. The department hopes that expanding access to valid driving licences will yield broader societal benefits.

By supporting efforts to cultivate prudent road users who possess integrity and consistently prioritise safety, the programme aligns with national objectives for safer highways and streets.

For many participants, this opportunity removes financial and logistical hurdles that might otherwise delay their ability to drive legally.

The structured nature of the assistance provides clarity and support, helping candidates navigate the complexities of the licensing system.

This approach not only empowers individuals but also contributes to a more regulated and safe driving ecosystem.

The choice of SMK Min Lit as the venue provided adequate space for the various practical modules required in parts two and three of the training.

These stages typically involve more advanced manoeuvres and real-world simulation scenarios, testing the readiness of learners to operate vehicles independently.

The successful completion of these phases is a prerequisite for obtaining a full licence, making the event a pivotal moment in the participants’ journeys.

As the day concluded, the focus remained on the long-term implications of such interventions. By investing in driver education at the grassroots level, stakeholders are laying the foundation for a generation of motorists who understand the gravity of their responsibility on the road.

The collaboration between government bodies and private institutes serves as a blueprint for future community engagement projects across Sarawak.

The event stood as a testament to the power of coordinated public service efforts. With hundreds of candidates now better equipped to handle the demands of modern traffic, the immediate impact is clear.

However, the enduring value lies in the potential reduction of road incidents and the promotion of a safety-first mindset among new drivers in the Batu Kawah constituency and beyond.
