The report was lodged by a member of the public who requested immediate assistance to remove the nest.

The incident was categorised as an Insect Nest Destruction Case (MSS), a type of emergency that requires swift intervention to prevent risks to public safety.

The complainant highlighted the presence of the nest on a tree facing the water treatment facility, raising concerns about potential hazards to workers and nearby residents.

Following the alert, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sematan unit was mobilised to the site. Their role was to ensure the safe destruction of the insects and to eliminate any danger posed by the nest.

APM officers emphasised their commitment to responding quickly and effectively to such cases, underscoring their operational motto: “Ready, Fast & With Integrity”.

Insect nest incidents are not uncommon in rural and semi-rural parts of Sarawak, where vegetation and water sources provide favourable conditions for colonies to thrive.

According to public safety guidelines, nests located near critical infrastructure such as water treatment plants or schools are treated as priority cases due to the risk of stings and allergic reactions among the community.

Local authorities have reminded residents to remain vigilant and to report any similar sightings immediately.

The Civil Defence Force continues to encourage the public to use the emergency hotline for rapid response. For urgent cases, residents can contact the Lundu Sematan APM directly at 082711292.

This latest intervention highlights the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety standards.

By reporting hazards promptly, residents play a crucial role in enabling emergency services to act before situations escalate.

The Telok Melano Water Treatment Plant serves as a vital facility for the surrounding area, making the swift removal of the insect nest particularly significant.

Ensuring the safety of such infrastructure is a key priority for local authorities, who continue to balance operational readiness with public welfare.

As Sarawak develops its districts and strengthens community resilience, incidents like these serve as reminders of the everyday challenges faced by emergency responders.

The Civil Defence Force remains prepared to act decisively in safeguarding both people and essential services.
