KUCHING – Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has reiterated its determination to enhance the efficient project delivery process by holding its third ‘One Month Pledge’ signing session for 2026.

The event took place at Wisma Saberkas headquarters and offered a formal opportunity for contractors to be signing up for legally binding milestone deals within the first thirty days of their individual contracts.

The aim of this approach is to advance project governance in a targeted manner from day one, discouraging contractors from lingering unnecessarily without tangible developments occurring within the first stages of a project.

In obtaining these first-of-their-kind pledges, JKR Sarawak hopes to actively minimise the chances of delays persisting into the long term and increase overall public works efficiency across Sarawak.

The briefing covered a wide range of high-impact happenings in Sarawak. Significant infrastructure projects comprised the special education programme integration (PPKI) block in SK Rampangi and a new preschool building at SK Bandar Samariang.

In addition, the commitment also included office and community developments like the new Selangau District Education Office and KEMAS Community Activity Centre in Kuching.

Importantly, the programme also reinforced the state’s continual moves to restore education facilities through the 2024 DAIF (Dilapidated Buildings) programme and reconstruction projects for SMK Meradong and SMK Ng. Among the priority areas were Entaban in Betong.

Other projects were the extension of the Information Department headquarters and the construction of more classrooms at SMK Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hjh Normah.

The department said that it would continue to closely oversee those projects. JKR Sarawak aims to make sure that the work carried out is performed on time and maintains the quality level expressed in signed collaborative agreements by continuous monitoring.

“Aimed at strengthening its continuous emphasis on improvement across all facets of project delivery and mitigating the chances of project delays, the One Month Pledge typifies yet another commitment from JKR Sarawak to pursue project implementation efficiently so that everyone could enjoy real development benefits,” a departmental spokesperson said.

JKR Sarawak insists that contractors show early momentum by institutionalising this pledge system.

The model for governance will contribute to the efficiency of the state’s construction industry and delivery of critical services and facilities to the public without interruption.
