KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak carried out a large-scale enforcement exercise on 7 April 2026, combining Special Ops Motorcycle and Ops Luxury to strengthen compliance with road laws across Kuching City.
The operation involved both mobile patrols and static inspections along Jalan Dato Hj Daud Abd Rahman, targeting a wide range of vehicles.
In total, 1,041 vehicles were inspected during the exercise, reflecting JPJ Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to curbing traffic offences that endanger public safety.
Officers identified several violations, including motorists driving without valid licences, expired licences, and technical faults in vehicles. These offences highlight persistent challenges in ensuring road users adhere to regulations.
In addition, 11 vehicles were seized during the operation. The seizures were linked to expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and the absence of insurance coverage, both of which are critical requirements under Malaysian road laws.
JPJ Sarawak stated that the enforcement drive demonstrates its determination to intensify monitoring and uphold safety standards.
The department emphasised that such operations are necessary to protect road users and maintain order on the roads.
Traffic enforcement experts note that targeted operations like Ops Motorcycle and Ops Luxury are vital in addressing recurring issues such as uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers.
These measures not only deter violations but also raise awareness among motorists about the importance of compliance.
The department has pledged to continue similar initiatives in the future, reinforcing its role in safeguarding the public.
By combining patrols with static checkpoints, JPJ Sarawak aims to ensure that enforcement remains visible and effective across the city.
The operation underscores the department’s broader mission of promoting responsible driving behaviour and reducing risks associated with traffic offences.
With thousands of vehicles inspected in a single day, JPJ Sarawak has signalled its readiness to act decisively against non-compliance.
