KUCHING – The Director of Forestry Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Haji Hamden bin Haji Mohammad, welcomed a delegation from Forest Plantation Development Sdn. Bhd. (FPDSB) on 8 April 2026 at the Sarawak Forestry Department Headquarters. The delegation was led by YBhg. Dato’ Wan Nizar bin Wan Fauzi, Chairman of FPDSB.
The courtesy visit provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between the department and FPDSB, with discussions centred on the implementation of the Forest Plantation Development Programme (PPLH).
Both parties emphasised the importance of collaboration in addressing current challenges and ensuring the long-term sustainability of forest resources in Sarawak.
The meeting also highlighted the role of plantation development in supporting Malaysia’s broader forestry agenda.
The PPLH initiative is designed to enhance timber supply through sustainable plantation practices, while reducing pressure on natural forests.
By fostering cooperation between government agencies and private sector stakeholders, the programme aims to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
In attendance were Mr. Ricky Jonathan Alek, Head of the Forest Planning and Management Division, and Ms. Zarina binti Haji Shebli, Head of the Restoration and Industrial Forestry Division.
Their participation underscored the technical expertise required to manage plantation projects effectively, particularly in areas such as reforestation, industrial timber production, and ecological restoration.
FPDSB has been actively involved in advancing plantation forestry across Malaysia, with a focus on improving productivity and ensuring compliance with sustainable standards.
The company’s engagement with Sarawak’s forestry authorities reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the state’s forestry sector, which plays a vital role in both local livelihoods and national economic development.
The courtesy visit also served as a platform to exchange views on emerging issues in forestry management, including climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and the integration of modern technology in plantation monitoring.
Officials noted that such dialogues are essential in shaping policies that safeguard Sarawak’s forests while supporting industrial growth.
Sarawak Forestry Department continues to position itself as a key player in promoting sustainable forestry practices.
By working closely with FPDSB and other stakeholders, the department aims to ensure that plantation development contributes positively to the state’s environmental and socio-economic objectives.
This engagement reflects the broader vision of Sarawak to balance development with conservation, ensuring that future generations benefit from well-managed forest resources.
