KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, His Excellency Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, at the Sarawak State Palace on 6 July.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by his wife, Madam Farzana Nasrin, and Mr S.M. Sayem, Third Secretary of the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia.
The visit marked Manjurul’s first official engagement in Sarawak since assuming his role in October 2025, following the presentation of his credentials to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties between Sarawak and Bangladesh, with discussions focusing on economic cooperation, trade, education, and human resource development.
Both sides expressed interest in exploring collaboration in high-impact sectors such as agro-based agriculture, food security, renewable energy, and higher education.
Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi highlighted the importance of advancing education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), noting its role as a foundation for future economic growth.
He explained that STEM disciplines underpin the development of high-tech industries, including hydrogen energy, green technology, carbon capture, and aerospace, all of which are vital for producing competitive human capital.
The discussions were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening cooperation and fostering mutual prosperity.
The Governor and Toh Puan expressed their appreciation to the High Commissioner and his delegation for the visit, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration between Sarawak and Bangladesh.
The courtesy call underscored the growing diplomatic engagement between the two regions, with both parties hopeful that stronger ties will lead to greater opportunities in education, trade, and sustainable development.
