The complainant, identified only as TM, reported the incident and sought immediate assistance from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Lundu Sematan unit.

The case was categorised as a Snake Catching Case (KMU), requiring urgent intervention to ensure the safety of both the vehicle owner and the surrounding community.

Upon receiving the alert, APM officers were dispatched to the scene. Their task was to safely capture and remove the snake, identified as a tedung selar, a species known locally for its size and potential danger.

The officers carried out the operation with caution, ensuring that the reptile was handled without harm to people or property.

Snake-related emergencies are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in areas where vehicles are parked near vegetation or open spaces.

Wildlife experts note that snakes often seek shelter in warm, enclosed spaces such as car engines, especially during periods of heavy rain or when food sources are nearby.

Local authorities have reminded residents to remain vigilant and to avoid attempting to remove snakes on their own. Instead, they are encouraged to contact emergency services for professional assistance.

The Civil Defence Force continues to stress its operational motto: “Ready, Fast & Integrity,” highlighting its commitment to rapid and responsible action.

The incident underscores the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety standards. By reporting hazards promptly, residents enable emergency responders to act before situations escalate.

In this case, the swift response prevented potential harm and ensured the safe removal of the snake.

Authorities have also urged vehicle owners to check their cars regularly, particularly when parked near forested areas or water sources.

Preventive measures, such as keeping surroundings clear of debris and avoiding prolonged parking in dense vegetation, can reduce the risk of wildlife encounters.

For urgent cases, residents in Lundu and Sematan can contact the Civil Defence Force directly at 082711292.

The hotline remains open for all emergency situations, including wildlife incidents, fire hazards, and public safety concerns.

As Sarawak continues to strengthen its emergency response systems, cases like these highlight the everyday challenges faced by local communities and the importance of preparedness.

The Civil Defence Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the district.
