Sarawak Governor and Wife Welcome Courtesy Visit from DBP

KUCHING – His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with Her Excellency Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from a delegation of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) at the Sarawak State Astana on 20 April 2026.

The delegation, led by DBP Director-General YBhg. Dr Hazami bin Jahari, arrived at 11.00 am to extend congratulations and present an official invitation to the governor and Toh Puan.

The invitation was for them to attend as guests of honour at DBP’s 70th Anniversary Celebration Ceremony and the closing of the Madani Youth Forum Competition, Piala TYT Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak 2026.

Accompanying Dr Hazami were senior DBP officials, including YBrs Encik Abang Haliman Abang Julai, Director of the Language and Literature Development Department; and YBrs Dr Azizul bin Haji Ismail, Director of the DBP Sarawak Branch.

Also joined were Puan Norhasmanalinda binti Mustapa, Head of the Corporate Communications Division; Puan Zawinajah binti Md Kaslan, Editor of the General Books Division; and Puan Coretta Herliana Kura, Assistant Director of the DBP Sarawak Branch.

The session also saw participation from Mr Muhamad Izzat bin Mohd Ishak, special officer to the director-general; Mr Muhamad Rafiq bin Abdul Rahman, officer from the Corporate Communications Division; and Puan Saripah Radiah binti Wan Tarie, officer from the Corporate Communications Unit, DBP Sarawak Branch.

During the meeting, DBP presented its latest progress report on the publication of a book authored by TYT Tun Pehin Sri, which is currently undergoing the editing process.

This update underscored DBP’s ongoing role in promoting literary works and supporting cultural development in Sarawak.

The governor and Toh Puan expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged DBP’s efforts in advancing language and literature.

They agreed to accept the invitation and conveyed their support for the upcoming anniversary celebration and youth forum, which aim to foster cultural engagement and highlight the importance of language development in Malaysia.
