Accompanied by his spouse, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, the Governor visited the area following his earlier engagements at the Sarawak General Hospital.

The outing provided a relaxed contrast to the morning’s hospital rounds. It allowed the governor and his family to engage with the community in a casual setting. Such visits are common among state leaders who wish to maintain close ties with the public outside of formal ceremonial duties.

Joining the couple were several family members, adding a personal dimension to the excursion. Their children, Puan Hajah Sharifah Fariah and Puan Hajah Sharifah Nong-Jasima, accompanied them for the meal.

Also present was Puan Hajah Sharifah Nong-Jasima’s husband, Haji Muhammad Nur Hakeem, along with their granddaughter, Puteri Athena Maimunah.

Before settling down for lunch, the group made a brief stop at a local stall. Here, they purchased kuih penyaram, a traditional Sarawakian cake known for its distinctive shape and sweet flavour. This delicacy is a popular snack among residents and visitors alike, often enjoyed with tea or coffee during afternoon breaks.

The Governor and his wife expressed gratitude for the warm reception they received. They acknowledged the kindness shown by the public and the staff at the restaurant.

Such acknowledgements reinforce the mutual respect that characterises relationships between state leaders and the communities they serve in Sarawak.

Furthermore, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan voiced their hope that the spirit of camaraderie would continue to thrive.

They emphasised the importance of preserving family values, which are central to the social fabric of the Sarawakian community. Strengthening these bonds contributes to social cohesion and overall societal well-being.

Kampung Buntal itself is a significant location for both locals and tourists. Located near the coast, it offers scenic views and access to fresh marine produce.

The village has developed into a culinary hub, with numerous restaurants specialising in seafood dishes that highlight regional flavours and cooking techniques.

The choice of Lim Hock Ann Restaurant underscores the area’s growing reputation as a food tourism destination.

Visitors often combine trips to nearby attractions with dining experiences in the village. This synergy supports local businesses and promotes economic activity within the rural-urban fringe of Kuching.

The presence of the Governor’s grandchildren indicates the intergenerational nature of the visit. Including younger family members in such outings helps to instil values of community engagement and cultural appreciation. It also demonstrates the balance between public duty and private family life maintained by state leaders.

Purchasing kuih penyaram before the main meal highlights an interest in supporting small-scale local vendors.

These stalls play a vital role in preserving traditional culinary practices and providing affordable snacks to the public. Supporting such enterprises aligns with broader goals of sustaining local heritage and economic diversity.

The afternoon concluded with the departure of the governor and his entourage. Their time in Kampung Buntal served as a reminder of the simple pleasures found in community interaction and shared meals.

Such moments contribute to the humanising of public office, making leadership feel more relatable and grounded.
