KUCHING – The Sarawak Government has extended financial grants to a wide range of non-governmental organisations, religious institutions, and community associations across the state, recognising their contributions to social development and community well-being.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Dr Sim Kui Hian, announced the allocation on 10 May 2026, emphasising that the support reflects not only financial assistance but also formal recognition of the vital role these organisations play in nation-building.
Dr Sim highlighted that the grants were issued directly under the Sarawak government’s name, rather than through individual service centre cheques, underscoring transparency and accountability.
He noted that this approach ensures organisations receive recognition from the state itself, rather than solely from elected representatives.
Among the recipients were religious institutions such as Persatuan Dharma San Seng Tong, Persatuan Maitreya Kuching, Kuching Sakya Jamtze Buddhist Society, Hock Teck Su Tua Pek Kong Temple, and Persatuan Kuan Yin Pwu Sha Yen Kuching.
Churches, temples, and Buddhist associations were acknowledged for their role in fostering spiritual growth and community unity.
Community-based organisations also benefited, including the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations, Kuching Badminton Association, Lions Club of Kuching Kota Sentosa, Kenyalang Park Community Association, and the Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Chapter.
These groups contribute to social cohesion, sports development, cultural preservation, and humanitarian work.
Clan associations and cultural societies such as Persatuan Foochow Padawan Kuching, Sarawak Si Ho (Lim Clan) Association Youth Section, Persatuan Klan Chung Sarawak, and Persatuan Teochew Kuching were also recognised.
Their efforts in preserving heritage and strengthening family networks were highlighted as integral to Sarawak’s multicultural identity.
Educational and welfare organisations, including the Sarawak Buddhist Association Kindergarten, Persatuan Kebajikan Am Sarawak (KEBASA), and the Committee of Management of Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools, received support to continue their work in education, welfare, and youth development.
In total, 82 organisations across Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, and surrounding areas were granted financial assistance.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots organisations that contribute to social welfare, cultural preservation, and community resilience.
Dr Sim expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of NGOs, temples, churches, and associations in filling gaps and providing services to local communities.
He reiterated that the government will continue to strengthen partnerships with civil society to ensure Sarawak’s progress is inclusive and sustainable.
