The inspection was led by the State Director of the Office of the Chief Government Security Officer (CGSO) Sarawak, Mr Zainor bin Zailan, who was joined by TM Sarawak Network General Manager, Mr Ismahalil Aply. Representatives from several key agencies also took part, reflecting the multi-agency approach required to safeguard essential telecommunications operations.

Members of the Sarawak State JKPKSP present included officials from the Sarawak State National Security Council (MKN), 3 Brigade Headquarters and the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK). Their involvement underscores the importance of coordinated security oversight across defence, enforcement and national security sectors.

The inspection was further supported by invited agencies, namely the Sarawak Federal Secretary’s Office, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the Kuching Division Resident’s Office, the Sarawak Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Sarawak State Security and Enforcement Unit. Their participation ensured a comprehensive assessment of TM’s security compliance and operational readiness.

The visit focused on evaluating the level of adherence to protection standards at TM’s Key Target Installation. These facilities are considered vital to national telecommunications continuity, making robust security measures essential. The inspection team reviewed existing protocols, physical safeguards and emergency response procedures to ensure they meet optimal security requirements.

Officials noted that maintaining strong security at telecommunications installations is crucial, given the increasing reliance on digital infrastructure for government operations, public services and economic activities. Any disruption to these systems could have significant implications for national stability and public well-being.

The inspection also served as a platform to strengthen strategic cooperation among ministries, departments and agencies involved in safeguarding critical infrastructure. By sharing insights and aligning security practices, the participating organisations aim to enhance collective preparedness and ensure seamless coordination during emergencies.

Telecommunications infrastructure, particularly installations managed by TM, plays a central role in supporting communication networks across Sarawak. As digital connectivity expands, the importance of protecting these assets grows, requiring continuous monitoring and updated security strategies.

The JKPKSP emphasised that regular inspections are necessary to identify potential vulnerabilities and ensure that all protective measures remain effective. These visits also encourage operators to maintain high standards of security management and compliance with national guidelines.

Representatives from TM expressed appreciation for the collaborative approach taken by the inspection team. They noted that such engagements help strengthen TM’s internal security practices and support the company’s commitment to safeguarding essential services for the public.

The involvement of agencies such as MCMC and the Fire and Rescue Department highlights the broad scope of infrastructure protection, which includes regulatory oversight, emergency response readiness and public safety considerations. Their contributions ensure that security assessments are thorough and aligned with national expectations.

The inspection concluded with a shared commitment to continue enhancing cooperation and maintaining vigilance over Sarawak’s strategic assets. Officials expressed confidence that sustained collaboration will help protect critical infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted telecommunications services for the people of Sarawak.

The JKPKSP reiterated that safeguarding national infrastructure is a collective responsibility. Through continuous monitoring, strategic partnerships and strong operational discipline, Sarawak aims to uphold the security and resilience of its key installations for the long-term benefit of the state and its residents.
