Sri Aman Quran Recitation Ceremony Highlights Faith and Unity

SRI AMAN – The Sri Aman Divisional Level Quran Recitation Ceremony for the year 1448H/2026M was successfully held on 22 June 2026 at the Sri Aman Divisional Civic Hall, drawing around 400 attendees from across the division.

The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Puan Dayang Noorazah Binti Haji Awang Sohor, State Assemblyman for N.28 Lingga, who served as Guest of Honour.

The ceremony provided a platform for the community to appreciate the beauty of Quranic recitation while strengthening Islamic values in the region.

Ten participants took part in this year’s competition, comprising six qari and four qariah. After evaluation by appointed judges, Masazizul Bin Suhaili was crowned champion in the Qari category, while Dayang Nur Afira Abang Mohammad emerged as the Qariah category champion. Both winners were commended for their dedication and skill in presenting the holy verses.

In his welcoming address, Sri Aman Division Resident and Chairman of the Islamic Festival Standing Committee, YBhg. Tuan Mahra Salleh, reminded the community of the importance of returning to the Quran as a guide in navigating modern challenges.

He encouraged all levels of society to embrace its teachings to build a prosperous life rooted in Islamic values.

Guest of Honour Puan Dayang Noorazah, in her closing remarks, stressed the need to nurture more young reciters in Sri Aman to ensure the tradition continues for future generations.

She also urged the community to practise tabayyun, the culture of verifying information, particularly in the age of social media, to avoid being misled by unauthentic news.

The ceremony was further supported by key figures including YBhg. Mr Shariff Bin Bujang, Sri Aman District Officer and Deputy Chairman of the Islamic Celebrations Standing Committee; Ustaz Kamarulzaman Bin Haji Kawi, Sri Aman Division Islamic Religious Administration Officer and Secretary of the committee; and Mr Mohd Shah Bin Achang, Sri Aman Division Temenggong.

The event underscored the role of Quran recitation ceremonies in fostering community brotherhood, promoting religious appreciation, and instilling values of respect and unity.

Organisers expressed hope that the programme would continue to serve as an effective platform for nurturing love for the Quran and strengthening Islamic identity in Sri Aman.
