KUCHING – The Tabuan Jaya Type 2 Health Clinic was officially handed over on 9 July 2026, marking a significant step forward in Sarawak’s healthcare infrastructure.
The ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government.
The clinic, approved under the First Rolling Plan of the Eleventh Malaysia Plan in 2016, was completed at a contract cost of RM23.231 million.
It is scheduled to begin operations on 20 July 2026, offering outpatient services, a mother and child clinic, and dental facilities.
With an estimated capacity of up to 800 patients daily, the facility is expected to ease congestion at existing clinics and improve access to healthcare for residents in Tabuan Jaya and surrounding areas.
The project scope included the construction of a main clinic block, store building, guard house, garbage house, pump house, ambulance garage, and generator house.
Mechanical and electrical works, along with external infrastructure, were also completed to ensure the clinic meets modern standards.
The use of IBS components in the clinic building reflects Sarawak Public Works Department’s commitment to efficiency and quality in construction.
Dr. Sim highlighted the importance of the new clinic in strengthening Sarawak’s healthcare delivery system.
He noted that the facility would not only provide essential medical services but also contribute to social development and improve the quality of life for the local population.
“This project is a reflection of our commitment to ensuring that healthcare facilities are accessible and meet the needs of the people,” he said during the ceremony.
The event was attended by several key figures, including Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council; Datin Paduka Roslinah Binti Md. Jani, Senior Divisional Secretary of the Development Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia; Dr Veronica Lugah, Director of the Sarawak State Health Department; Dr Johnny Pangkas, Kuching Divisional Health Officer; and Encik Mohammad Faizal bin Othman, representing the Kuching Public Works Department.
Sarawak Public Works Department emphasised that the project was carried out according to strict specifications and standards, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Officials noted that the clinic’s completion under the 10th RM4 programme demonstrates the state’s commitment to delivering healthcare projects that directly benefit communities.
Healthcare experts have observed that the addition of the Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic will help reduce patient load at other facilities in Kuching, particularly in areas experiencing rapid population growth.
The clinic’s services are expected to improve maternal and child health outcomes, provide timely dental care, and enhance overall public health in the region.
Local residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the new clinic will reduce waiting times and improve convenience.
The facility is also expected to support preventive health programmes, community outreach, and health education initiatives.
The handover of the Tabuan Jaya Type 2 Health Clinic stands as a milestone in Sarawak’s broader healthcare agenda, which prioritises expanding access to modern facilities and ensuring that communities benefit from improved services.
With operations set to begin later this month, the clinic is poised to play a vital role in meeting the healthcare needs of thousands of residents.
