According to Sibu Zone Chief of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Andy Alie, the woman, who was driving alone, was conscious and not trapped inside the vehicle upon arrival of the rescue team.

“In this incident, the 46-year-old female victim only sustained minor injuries. She was found conscious and did not require any complex rescue operation,” he stated.

Firefighters quickly stabilised the situation, using a stretcher to move the victim safely before handing her over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel. She was then taken to the Selangau Health Clinic for further treatment.

“The team also cleaned up debris from the accident to ensure the road was safe for other road users,” Andy added.

The clean-up and safety operations were completed by 10.10pm.

This incident has once again highlighted the need for drivers to be extra cautious along the Selangau-Sibu stretch, especially at night when visibility is reduced. Logging lorries, commonly found along this route, often pose serious risks when road conditions are poor or when drivers fail to remain alert.
