Sarawak Premier Offers Condolences to Family of Late James Chabu

KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, visited the family of the late James Anak Alfred Chabu on Tuesday evening to extend his condolences and pay his respects.

The Premier was received at the family residence in Kuching by James’s widow, Datu Dr Lulie Melling, former Director of the Sarawak Peatland Research Institute, together with close relatives.

The visit was marked by solemnity as the Premier offered words of comfort and moral support to the grieving family.

James Anak Alfred Chabu, who passed away recently, is remembered by those close to him as a kind-hearted individual who placed great importance on family and friendship.

His warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on those who knew him. Friends and relatives have described him as someone who was deeply cherished within his community.

During the visit, the Premier expressed his sympathy for the family’s loss, acknowledging the emotional weight of the occasion.

“The Premier conveyed his condolences and provided moral support to the family of the late on the passing of his beloved husband and father,” a statement noted.

James was also known for his passion for football, particularly as a loyal supporter of Manchester United. His enthusiasm for the sport was well recognised among his circle of friends, adding another dimension to the fond memories shared about him.

The presence of the Premier highlighted the importance of community solidarity in times of bereavement. Such gestures from leaders often serve as a reminder of the value placed on compassion and unity within Sarawak’s society.

Dr Lulie Melling, who has contributed significantly to environmental research in the state, stood alongside her family as they received condolences from the Premier.

Her leadership in peatland studies has been widely acknowledged, and the family’s resilience during this difficult time reflects the strength of their bond.

The visit underscored the Premier’s commitment to supporting Sarawak families during moments of hardship. It also demonstrated the role of public figures in offering reassurance and empathy to citizens facing personal loss.

James’s passing has been felt not only by his immediate family but also by friends and acquaintances who admired his caring nature. His legacy remains in the affection and respect he inspired among those around him.

As the family continues to mourn, the community has rallied to provide comfort, reflecting Sarawak’s enduring spirit of togetherness.
