SPK Tanjung Manis Launches 69 New Homes to Drive Rural Growth

TANJUNG MANIS – Rural development in Sarawak has received a major boost with the launch of the Tanjung Manis Village Expansion Scheme (SPK), which will deliver 69 new housing units alongside modern infrastructure to uplift the local community.

The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) handover ceremony was officiated by Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, and Kuala Rajang State Assemblyman, at the Tanjung Manis Community Hall on Friday.

Datuk Len Talif explained that the SPK reflects the new rural development approach introduced by Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. He stressed that the scheme is not limited to housing but encompasses a complete ecosystem of infrastructure, including roads, drainage, electricity substations and community facilities.

“SPK Tanjung Manis is not just a housing project, but a development ecosystem that supports the social and economic growth of the population and opens up job opportunities and new economic activities,” he said.

The project, implemented by the Land Development and Conservation Authority (LCDA), is part of Sarawak’s strategic agenda to modernise rural settlements. It offers affordable and flexible land ownership conditions, enabling more residents to own homes in a structured and sustainable manner.

Construction involves 69 housing units, with 39 units under the first phase. Site and land completion works are expected to finish by the end of November this year. The scheme also includes a 1.65-acre public recreation area, designed to meet social needs and enhance quality of life.

The site completion and land package is valued at RM3.88 million, while the total infrastructure development under the scheme is estimated at RM20 million. Oversight of the project is being carried out by the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), aligning with the Rajang Delta regional development plan that prioritises sustainable and inclusive growth.

Datuk Len highlighted that LCDA has introduced green energy technology into the scheme, with solar panel systems installed under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) concept in the Gedong SPK model house. This initiative allows homeowners to generate their own electricity, reducing costs and reliance on conventional grids.

He described SPK as the foundation for forming new rural towns that are progressive, competitive and capable of driving local economic growth. He called for continued cooperation between government agencies, contractors and the community to ensure smooth implementation and long-term benefits.

The ceremony was attended by Mukah Division Resident Datu Kueh Lei Poh, RADDA Special Administrative Officer Kelana Kipli, Tanjung Manis District Officer Ismail Kasah, LCDA representatives, community leaders and local residents.

The SPK Tanjung Manis is expected to act as a catalyst for rural transformation, supporting Sarawak’s vision of balanced development and a more prosperous, inclusive future.
