KUCHING – The Sarawak Federal Secretary, YBhg Dato Ahmad Nadzri bin Mohd Hassan, received an initial briefing on the upcoming Brisk Walk for Healthy Mental Programme in conjunction with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026.
The session was conducted at his office on 24 April 2026 by YBrs Encik Jamadi bin Yusup, Director of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak.
The briefing outlined the objectives and implementation plan of the programme, which is designed to raise awareness of mental health among workers.
DOSH Sarawak emphasised that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote workplace safety and well-being, aligning with international observances that highlight occupational health standards.
The Brisk Walk for a Healthy Mental Programme is expected to encourage employees to adopt healthier lifestyles while recognising the importance of mental resilience in the workplace.
Officials explained that the activity would serve as both a symbolic and practical measure to reinforce the message that mental health is integral to overall occupational safety.
Also present during the session were Ir Haji Arahman bin Haji Jamel, Deputy Director (Operations) of DOSH Sarawak; Encik Cassius anak Duwin, Head of the Management Services Section; and Puan Siti Fatimah binti Abu Bakar, Head of the Promotion and Resources Section.
Their participation reflected the department’s collective commitment to ensuring the success of the programme.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed annually, provides an opportunity for governments, employers, and workers to focus on creating safe and healthy working environments.
In Sarawak, the inclusion of mental health awareness in this year’s programme demonstrates a progressive approach to occupational safety, recognising that psychological well-being is as important as physical protection.
DOSH Sarawak highlighted that the initiative is part of a wider agenda to integrate mental health considerations into workplace policies.
By organising activities such as the brisk walk, the department aims to foster a culture of openness and support, encouraging workers to prioritise their mental health and seek assistance when needed.
The briefing concluded with an affirmation of the department’s readiness to implement the programme at the state level.
Officials expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute to stronger awareness and healthier practices among Sarawak’s workforce, ultimately supporting productivity and long-term development.
