SONG – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Song District successfully handled a snake-catching case on 15 May 2026 after receiving an emergency call from the public.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) was alerted when a resident reported spotting a rat snake in his yard along Jalan Takan.
Concerned about the safety of the household and surrounding community, the MyAspa-O Alpha Squad was immediately dispatched to the location.
Upon arrival, the team conducted a search of the premises and quickly identified the reptile. Measuring approximately one metre in length, the rat snake was captured using the pinching technique, a method designed to secure snakes safely without causing harm to the officers or the public.
The operation was completed smoothly, with no incidents reported. Authorities confirmed that the area was safe following the removal of the snake.
The successful intervention highlighted the readiness of APM personnel to respond to wildlife-related emergencies in residential areas.
Officials reminded residents that snakes often enter populated areas in search of food or shelter, particularly during periods of heavy rain.
While rat snakes are generally non-venomous, their presence can still cause alarm and pose risks if not handled properly.
APM Song urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any sightings of snakes or other dangerous animals immediately.
Emergency calls can be directed to the District Operations Control Centre via 999 or through the dedicated lines at 017-9404948 and 019-9949934.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to community safety, stressing that its personnel are trained to manage such cases efficiently.
By working closely with residents, APM continues to ensure that threats are neutralised quickly and effectively.
This incident underscores the importance of public cooperation in maintaining safety across Sarawak’s districts. Early reporting and swift response remain key factors in preventing accidents and protecting lives.
