BATU KAWA – The long-awaited drainage upgrading project for the Taman Sri Emas residential area along Stapok Utama Road has officially commenced, following approval secured by Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The project comes after years of concern from residents, who reported that the drainage system had not undergone significant improvements for decades.
Many sections had deteriorated severely, leading to poor water flow and raising fears of flooding during heavy rainfall.
Residents voiced their concerns through the N14 Batu Kawa Service Centre, urging authorities to take action.
Their requests were subsequently channelled to the relevant agencies, resulting in the approval of the upgrading works.
Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian highlighted that the project reflects the government’s commitment to addressing community needs and improving infrastructure in residential areas.
He noted that proper drainage is essential not only for flood prevention but also for maintaining public health and safety.
The upgrading works involve repairing damaged sections, replacing outdated structures, and ensuring that water flow is restored to optimal levels.
Engineers and contractors are currently on site, with works progressing actively to meet the expected timeline.
Local residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing relief that their long-standing concerns are finally being addressed.
Many believe the improvements will significantly reduce the risk of waterlogging and enhance the overall living environment in Taman Sri Emas.
The project also underscores the importance of community engagement in local development. By raising issues through the service centre, residents played a vital role in ensuring their voices were heard and acted upon.
As works continue, authorities have assured that safety measures are being observed to minimise disruption to daily life in the area.
Once completed, the upgraded drainage system is expected to provide lasting benefits, supporting Batu Kawa’s broader development agenda.
