KUCHING – His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, arrived safely at the Hornbill Skyways Terminal in Kuching on the evening of 17 June following their official engagements in Miri.
The couple’s return flight departed from Miri Airport earlier in the day, concluding a series of significant programmes in the northern city.
Their arrival was greeted by senior officers from the Office of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, reflecting the importance of the visit.
Among those present to welcome the Governor and Toh Puan were YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak; and YB Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department. Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman was accompanied by his wife, Datin Hajah Siti Shorgayah binti Ahmad Zaidin.
During their stay in Miri, the governor and Toh Puan attended two major events. The first was the Prayer Reading Ceremony marking the end of the year 1447 H and the beginning of 1448 H, held at the At-Taqwa Mosque.
The second was the Sarawak Level Ma’al Hijrah Celebration Assembly 1448H/2026M, which took place at the Miri Indoor Stadium.
Both programmes were well attended and highlighted the state’s commitment to fostering unity and strengthening Islamic values.
The Governor and Toh Puan expressed their gratitude for the smooth organisation of the events, acknowledging the efforts of the Sarawak government, the organising committees and all parties involved.
They noted that the orderly and successful execution of the programmes reflected the dedication of those working behind the scenes to ensure meaningful community gatherings.
The visit underscored the role of Sarawak’s leadership in supporting religious and cultural activities across the state.
The governor’s presence at both ceremonies was seen as a symbol of encouragement for the Muslim community, reinforcing the importance of faith, knowledge and unity in building a prosperous society.
As the couple returned to Kuching, their appreciation was extended to all who contributed to the success of the programmes.
Their message emphasised the value of collective effort in ensuring Sarawak continues to progress while maintaining harmony and prosperity.
