SIBU – Firefighters from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department successfully contained a heavy machinery fire along KM 2 Jalan Sibu-Bintulu on 17 June.
The incident, which occurred outside a workshop building, involved a low loader trailer and a backhoe excavator.
The operation began at approximately 10.30 am and lasted for about an hour. Upon arrival, the team discovered that a Mercedes Astro 4430 low loader trailer was completely destroyed, while the backhoe excavator sustained partial damage estimated at 18 per cent. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the nearby workshop structure.
The response was led by PBK I Badrulhisam Bujang, who served as the operation commander. He was supported by PBK II Mazlan Abu, PBB Ammar Asraf Azmi, PBB Wan Nur Asraf Wan Fauzi, and PBB Caesar Bantin Barau. The control room was managed by PBB Ralph Abdullah.
Firefighters employed the RECEO method to tackle the blaze, using a single assistant line from the machinery pump to extinguish the flames.
Due to the absence of a nearby hydrant or open water source, the fire engine had to repeatedly refill from a distant hydrant, adding complexity to the operation.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also assisted, with two members from the Sibu Jaya branch present at the scene.
Their involvement ensured coordination between agencies and contributed to maintaining safety during the operation.
After ensuring the fire was fully extinguished and the site secure, the team returned to the station. The incident highlighted the department’s efficiency and resilience in managing emergencies despite logistical challenges.
The Fire and Rescue Department commended the swift and disciplined response of its personnel, noting that their actions prevented further damage and safeguarded nearby property.
The department reiterated its commitment to providing fast, friendly, and high-performance service to the public.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and inter-agency cooperation in handling emergencies.
The successful containment of the fire demonstrated the professionalism of the Sibu Jaya fire station’s Charlie Team, reinforcing public confidence in local emergency services.
