SARIKEI – A tragic road accident involving two Hilux vehicles at Simpang Bulat Nursery on 4 July claimed three lives and left one person injured.
The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarikei District received an emergency call regarding the incident late Saturday night.
Rescue teams from APM, the Royal Malaysian Police (JSPT), and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, responders carried out rescue operations and secured the area to prevent further risks. The Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) confirmed that three victims had died at the scene.
Another individual sustained minor injuries to his left hand and was transported to Sarikei Hospital for treatment.
Authorities emphasised that the swift cooperation between multiple agencies was crucial in managing the situation.
Once the operation was completed, the site was handed over to the police for further investigation, while APM members returned to the Sarikei PKOD base.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety in the district, with officials urging motorists to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations.
Illegal racing, reckless driving, and speeding have been highlighted in recent months as contributing factors to accidents in Sarawak.
APM reiterated its commitment to serving the nation under its guiding principles of readiness, integrity, and rapid response.
The agency continues to encourage the public to report emergencies promptly and to cooperate with enforcement authorities to reduce risks on the road.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the need for community awareness in preventing tragedies.
With road accidents remaining a major cause of fatalities nationwide, enforcement agencies are expected to intensify patrols and safety campaigns in Sarikei and surrounding areas.
