SIBU – The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) responded swiftly to an accident clean-up operation along Jalan Salim Stabau, Sibu Jaya Bypass, on 5 July.
The incident involved remnants from a motorcycle accident that left two victims injured, prompting police assistance and the deployment of JBPM’s Alpha Team from Sibu Jaya Fire Station.
Operation Commander PBK I Thomson Sumping led the response, supported by PBK II Peni, PBK II Lokman, PBB Augustine, PBB Nabil, and PBB Fairuz.
The team utilised the LFRT Atego fire engine (BJU 6191) to carry out the clean-up. Upon arrival, the team assessed the scene and confirmed debris was scattered across the highway.
Firefighters, equipped with full operational clothing, used a water stream from the engine pump to clear the site. The operation ensured the road was safe for motorists before the team returned to base.
The clean-up was conducted in collaboration with seven police officers and three personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), reflecting strong inter-agency cooperation.
The accident site was located approximately five kilometres from the station, allowing for a rapid response.
Authorities praised the professionalism and efficiency of JBPM, noting their fast and friendly service in line with the department’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The operation highlighted the importance of teamwork between police, health services, and fire personnel in managing road incidents effectively.
Officials reminded the public to exercise caution on highways and to report emergencies promptly to ensure swift intervention.
With road accidents remaining a concern in Sarawak, such coordinated responses are vital in maintaining safety and preventing further risks.
