KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Samarahan Food and Cultural Festival (SFCF) 2026 has concluded with remarkable success, recording sales exceeding RM400,000 over its 11-day run.
The achievement highlights the festival’s role in strengthening the local economy and providing traders with a valuable platform to increase their income.
Chairman of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), Councillor Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, said the festival had not only boosted economic activity through the participation of 52 food and beverage stalls but also promoted cultural heritage and reinforced Kota Samarahan’s appeal as a destination for visitors.
He noted that the diverse programme of activities, ranging from cultural competitions and silat demonstrations to archery, autoshow displays, zumba sessions, and performances by local artists, had drawn strong public interest.
“Various activities including cultural competitions, silat, archery, autoshow, zumba, Night Run and performances by local artists received an extraordinary response, in addition to providing economic spillover to business premises around the festival area,” he said during the closing ceremony.
The closing night at the Desa Ilmu MPKS Visitor Market attracted thousands of visitors, creating a lively atmosphere.
The highlight was the SFCF Night Run 2026, which brought together 220 participants for both the 3-kilometre Fun Walk and the 7-kilometre Fun Run categories.
The evening also featured prize presentations for winners of the Night Run and the Autoshow Competition.
Excitement peaked with a lucky draw offering a Perodua Axia Automatic as the grand prize, sponsored by the Muara Tuang DUN Branch of SABERKAS.
The draw was officiated by Deputy Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly and Muara Tuang Assemblyman, Dato’ Idris Buang.
Councillor Abang Ismawi emphasised that the success of SFCF 2026 demonstrated MPKS’s commitment to community development through initiatives that integrate culture, sports, and entrepreneurship.
He added that the festival’s achievements reflected the council’s dedication to fostering unity and economic resilience in Kota Samarahan.
The festival’s strong turnout and economic impact underline its growing importance as a cultural and commercial event in Sarawak.
With its blend of traditional heritage and modern attractions, SFCF continues to strengthen community ties while contributing to the region’s economic growth.
