The emergency response involved three members of the Alpha Squad, who were deployed to the school grounds after reports of the nest were received. The team utilised controlled burning techniques to eliminate the threat, following strict safety procedures to ensure the operation was conducted without harm to personnel or the public.

The mission concluded smoothly, with no injuries or untoward incidents reported. School authorities were advised to remain vigilant against poisonous insects in the surrounding area, as such nests can pose serious risks to students and staff.

Wasp nests are a recurring hazard in rural Sarawak, particularly in areas with dense vegetation. Experts note that land wasps are highly aggressive when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe allergic reactions in vulnerable individuals. Schools and communities are often urged to report sightings promptly to avoid unnecessary danger.

APM Saratok has emphasised its readiness to respond to such threats, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in ensuring safety. The unit regularly undertakes operations to remove dangerous insects, snakes, and other wildlife that may endanger residents.

Local education officials have welcomed the swift action, noting that the presence of a wasp nest near a school could have posed significant risks to children. Preventive measures, including regular inspections of school grounds and surrounding areas, are being encouraged to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents.

The operation at SK Engkabang reflects the broader role of APM in safeguarding communities beyond traditional emergencies such as fires or medical cases. Their expertise in handling environmental hazards ensures that schools and public spaces remain safe for daily activities.

As Sarawak continues to strengthen its emergency response systems, the cooperation between schools, local authorities, and civil defence teams remains crucial. The Saratok case demonstrates how preparedness and swift intervention can prevent potential harm, reinforcing public confidence in the state’s emergency services.
