KUCHING – A total of 120 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Payau took part in a series of engaging Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak on 14 July 2026. The initiative was designed to nurture interest in STEM subjects through interactive and experience-based learning. Students were introduced to hands-on activities that encouraged exploration, problem-solving and innovation. Among the highlights were Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, creative projects using 3Doodler pens, STEM DIY kits, and the Straw Tower Building Challenge.

Participants also attended a briefing on PANDei, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s digital learning initiative, which expands access to technology-driven education. The session introduced students to new ways of learning and highlighted the importance of digital literacy in today’s fast-changing world.

The programme reflects Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to supporting STEM culture among the younger generation. By bringing technology and creative learning tools directly into schools, the organisation aims to inspire students to explore new ideas and develop skills that align with Sarawak’s aspirations for future development.

Teachers at SK Payau welcomed the initiative, noting that such activities provide students with opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. The combination of fun, creativity and technology helped students to grasp complex concepts in a more engaging manner.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak expressed its appreciation to SK Payau for their cooperation and hospitality. The organisers emphasised that programmes like this are vital in encouraging students to innovate, create and think critically, ultimately shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, creative and technologically literate.

The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and community organisations in promoting STEM education. By working together, schools and partners can provide students with access to resources and experiences that broaden their horizons and prepare them for future challenges.

Sarawak’s focus on STEM education is part of a wider effort to equip young people with skills relevant to the digital economy. Initiatives such as this not only enhance learning but also contribute to building a workforce capable of driving innovation and sustaining economic growth.

As the state continues to invest in education and technology, programmes like the one at SK Payau serve as practical examples of how STEM learning can be integrated into everyday schooling. They demonstrate the value of interactive approaches in making science and technology accessible and enjoyable for students of all backgrounds.

The success of the event underscores the importance of nurturing curiosity and creativity from an early age. By encouraging students to experiment, explore and innovate, Sarawak is laying the foundation for a future generation that will be well-prepared to contribute to the state’s development goals.
