SRI AMAN – Firefighters in Sri Aman successfully extinguished a land fire covering approximately one acre along Jalan Lingga on 13 July 2026.
The incident was reported at 8.22 am by a local resident, Pn. Nur Ameera, who contacted the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department. The fire occurred near Ladang Tabaruk, about 26 kilometres from the nearest fire station.
Responding units included a Fire Rescue Tender Scania BME 7039 with a team of six personnel and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle BMY 4446 with two members. The operation was led by PBK I Mohd Fadhli bin Buyong, who acted as the commander at the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire spreading across uneven terrain with no nearby open water source. Despite these challenges, the team deployed full personal protective equipment and extended water lines from the fire engine’s tank to suppress the flames. After several hours of effort, the fire was fully extinguished.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also assisted, with five officers present to support the operation and ensure public safety.
Authorities noted that the lack of water sources and difficult access routes posed significant obstacles during the response. However, coordinated teamwork and rapid deployment of equipment enabled the fire to be contained before it could spread further.
Land fires remain a recurring issue in Sarawak, particularly during dry spells when vegetation becomes highly flammable. Officials have repeatedly urged residents to avoid open burning and to report any suspicious activities that could lead to uncontrolled fires.
The Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department emphasised the importance of community cooperation in preventing such incidents. Public vigilance and timely reporting are critical in ensuring that fires are tackled before they escalate.
This latest incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by rural communities where access to water and infrastructure can be limited. Firefighters continue to adapt their strategies to overcome these challenges, relying on portable water supplies and specialised equipment to manage emergencies in remote areas.
Authorities have also reminded landowners to take precautionary measures, including clearing dry vegetation and maintaining firebreaks to reduce the risk of spread. Community awareness campaigns are being planned to educate residents on fire safety and prevention.
The Sri Aman operation demonstrates the dedication of local firefighters, who remain committed to protecting lives and property despite difficult conditions. Their swift response prevented further damage and ensured that the fire was contained within a manageable area.
Residents are encouraged to remain alert and to contact the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department immediately if they observe signs of fire. Early intervention remains the most effective way to safeguard communities from the dangers of uncontrolled fires.
