MIRI (Jan 10): A dramatic wildlife encounter unfolded early Friday morning when a baby crocodile weighing 11kg was discovered stuck in the drain of a house at Jalan Sim Kheng Hong, Batu Niah.
The startled homeowner immediately contacted the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Batu Niah) at 4.24am, seeking urgent assistance.
According to a statement from BBP Batu Niah, a team of firefighters was swiftly dispatched to the scene to address the unusual situation.
“Upon arrival, our personnel found the baby crocodile struggling in a drain within the house compound. Using a net, they successfully trapped the reptile and secured it safely,” the statement read.
The young crocodile was subsequently transported back to BBP Batu Niah. The reptile will be handed over to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for further action, in line with wildlife conservation and safety protocols.
This incident highlights the importance of maintaining awareness in areas where wildlife encounters are possible. Residents in crocodile-prone regions are reminded to exercise caution, especially near water sources, and report sightings to the authorities promptly.
