KUCHING – The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) presented a business memorandum to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, during a courtesy visit on 14 July 2026.

The memorandum outlined pressing concerns from the business community, focusing on three major issues: rising costs linked to the Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA), the growing impact of illegal gambling and drug abuse, and challenges in implementing the SKDS diesel subsidy mechanism. These matters were highlighted as critical to ensuring a more conducive and sustainable business environment in Sarawak.

ACCCIS proposed several recommendations aimed at reducing operating costs, enhancing competitiveness and supporting sustainable economic growth. The chamber emphasised the need for collaborative solutions between government and industry to address these challenges effectively.

The meeting was described as constructive, with both sides engaging in meaningful discussions and exchanging views on the state’s business and investment landscape. ACCCIS expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Government for its continued commitment to economic development and thanked the Premier for his openness in listening to the concerns of the business community.

The chamber reaffirmed its support for the Sarawak Government’s development agenda, pledging to maintain close collaboration in fostering a competitive, resilient and business-friendly ecosystem. This commitment, ACCCIS noted, is essential for ensuring long-term prosperity across the state.

The delegation was led by ACCCIS President Kong Chiong Ung, accompanied by Vice Presidents Dato Tan Jit Kee and Datuk Wee Kok Hui, Secretary-General Dato Chai Voon Tok, Deputy Secretary-General Andy Yek Hock Siang, Treasurer Noel Yek Nae Shiuan, Council Member Ling Kie King, and Jacky Yong Ka Yein, Committee Member of the Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The memorandum reflects the chamber’s proactive role in representing the interests of Sarawak’s business community. By raising issues such as labour costs, social concerns and subsidy mechanisms, ACCCIS aims to ensure that policies remain aligned with the realities faced by local enterprises.

The Premier’s engagement with ACCCIS demonstrates the government’s willingness to work closely with stakeholders to address challenges and strengthen Sarawak’s economic resilience. The dialogue is expected to pave the way for further cooperation, ensuring that Sarawak continues to attract investment and foster sustainable growth.
