KUCHING – Schools in N14 Batu Kawa have continued to benefit from annual financial grants provided by the Sarawak Government, with allocations reaching more than RM13 million between 2016 and 2025.
On 19 June 2026, the latest round of grants was distributed to local schools, including SK Rantau Panjang and SK Jalan Arang.
The initiative, which has been ongoing for a decade, covers both primary and secondary schools under the Ministry of Education as well as private Chinese independent schools in the constituency.
The grants are part of the state’s commitment to ensuring that educational institutions operate smoothly and provide the best possible environment for students.
The programme has been described as a vital support mechanism, helping schools address operational challenges and improve facilities.
Leaders in Batu Kawa have emphasised the importance of personally engaging with schools to understand their needs.
Regular visits have allowed issues to be identified and addressed, ensuring that funding is channelled effectively to benefit students and teachers alike.
Since its inception in 2016, the grant programme has grown steadily, reflecting the government’s recognition of education as a cornerstone of community development.
The RM13 million allocated to date has supported infrastructure upgrades, teaching resources, and welfare initiatives across Batu Kawa schools.
Observers note that the initiative aligns with Sarawak’s broader education agenda, which seeks to balance urban and rural development while ensuring equitable access to quality learning environments.
By supporting schools directly, the government aims to reduce disparities and strengthen the overall education system.
The continuation of these grants demonstrates the state’s long-term commitment to nurturing future generations.
With education increasingly seen as a driver of social and economic progress, such investments are expected to yield lasting benefits for communities in Batu Kawa and beyond.
