BAU – Police in Bau District have confirmed two separate arrests linked to suspected drug abuse, carried out on 14 June 2026.
The operations were conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Section together with members of the Bau District Police Headquarters’ BPJKK unit.
The first arrest took place at approximately 5.30pm along the roadside in Kampung Seromah. Officers detained a 39-year-old man after discovering a plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu.
The suspect was taken into custody under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers possession of controlled substances.
Later the same day, in Kampung Serikin, police apprehended a second suspect, a man aged around 28. Preliminary screening tests indicated the presence of drugs in his system.
He was subsequently detained under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which addresses consumption of illicit substances. Both suspects remain under investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence.
The Bau District Police Chief, Pisupt Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, stressed that law enforcement will act firmly against any involvement in drug abuse.
He reminded the public that community cooperation is vital in tackling narcotics-related crime. “We urge residents to provide information to assist investigations and help us safeguard the district,” he said.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities through established hotlines.
Information can be channelled to the JSJN Bukit Aman hotline at 012-2087222 or the JSJN IPK Sarawak hotline at 017-5929211.
Authorities emphasise that public vigilance plays a crucial role in reducing the spread of drug abuse across Sarawak.
Drug-related offences remain a pressing concern in Bau and surrounding areas. Recent enforcement efforts reflect the police’s determination to curb the availability and use of dangerous substances.
Community leaders have also voiced support for stronger preventive measures, including awareness campaigns and youth engagement programmes, to reduce the risk of addiction and crime.
The arrests highlight ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating narcotics. Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring offenders are brought to justice under the law.
