SAMARAHAN – The Director of Public Works Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, carried out an empowerment visit to the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge project on 19 April 2026, demonstrating the department’s commitment to ensuring that strategic infrastructure projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
During the visit, Dr Cassidy received a comprehensive briefing from the project team, covering current progress, challenges encountered, and measures being implemented to improve efficiency.
A site inspection was also conducted, allowing the director to observe construction activities directly and engage with stakeholders to strengthen coordination.
The Batang Lupar 1 Bridge project is regarded as a key initiative in enhancing Sarawak’s transport network.
Once completed, it is expected to significantly improve accessibility for local residents, reduce travel times, and stimulate socio-economic growth in surrounding areas.
The bridge will also serve as a vital link in connecting communities, thereby fostering stronger regional integration.
Officials highlighted that the project is not only about physical connectivity but also about creating opportunities for economic empowerment.
Improved mobility is anticipated to boost trade, tourism, and investment, while also facilitating access to education and healthcare services for rural communities.
The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that the bridge is completed within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with quality standards.
The department emphasised that infrastructure projects of this scale are central to the state’s long-term development agenda, contributing to both urban and rural advancement.
Stakeholder discussions during the visit focused on overcoming logistical challenges and ensuring that resources are deployed effectively.
The empowerment session also reinforced the importance of collaboration between government agencies, contractors, and local communities in achieving successful project delivery.
The Batang Lupar 1 Bridge is part of Sarawak’s broader infrastructure development strategy, which aims to modernise transport systems and strengthen connectivity across the state.
JKR Sarawak has reiterated its commitment to “building for the people”, ensuring that projects are not only technically sound but also socially impactful.
