MPV-Trailer Crash in Kulai: Husband Killed, Wife Seriously Injured

KULAI: A tragic road accident in Kulai has claimed the life of a 56-year-old man while leaving his wife seriously injured after their MPV collided with a palm oil trailer along the Jalan Kulai–Kota Tinggi route near the Felda Taib Andak junction on Thursday afternoon.

The crash involved a Mitsubishi Xpander MPV and a 30-ton Fuso trailer loaded with palm oil. The incident happened around 3.23pm, prompting an emergency response from the fire and rescue department.

According to the Kulai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), a total of nine personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call. Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Fauzi Che Idris confirmed that the rescue team arrived to find the MPV badly damaged after the impact with the heavy vehicle.

The driver of the MPV, identified as Zamri Mohamed, 56, was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters carried out an extraction operation to remove him from the wreckage. He was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.

His wife, Azizah Abd. Samad, 55, who was also in the MPV, suffered serious injuries and was rushed for urgent medical treatment. Her current condition has been reported as critical but stable under medical supervision.

The trailer driver escaped unharmed in the incident. Authorities stated that weather and road conditions at the time are part of the ongoing assessment, while investigations are being conducted to determine the exact cause of the collision.

Rescue operations were completed at about 5pm after the scene was cleared and the victims were handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.

Road users in the area experienced temporary delays while emergency teams worked at the crash site, highlighting once again the risks along busy industrial and plantation routes in Johor.
