KUANTAN – Sarawak’s homestay tourism sector is being highlighted at the Sarawak Entrepreneur Showcase (SUS) 2026, held at Kuantan City Mall, Pahang, from 29 April to 3 May.
The programme runs daily from 10 am to 10 pm and is organised by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED).
The showcase is a strategic initiative aimed at expanding market access for Sarawak entrepreneurs in Peninsular Malaysia.
It focuses on promoting products and services rooted in Sarawak’s cultural heritage, community experiences, and unique traditions.
The official opening ceremony will be officiated by YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Bin Ali Hasan, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak, on 30 April at 3 pm.
His presence underscores the importance of the programme in strengthening Sarawak’s entrepreneurial footprint beyond the state.
Responding to MINTRED’s invitation, the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) has sent four homestay entrepreneurs to represent two clusters: Homestay Santubong and Homestay Gua Niah.
These entrepreneurs are showcasing tourism packages that offer authentic experiences of Sarawak’s community life, combining cultural immersion, nature exploration, and heritage activities.
The participation of Sarawak’s homestay clusters is expected to achieve several outcomes:
- Expanding the market reach of Sarawak’s community tourism products.
- Increasing visibility of homestay packages to new audiences in Peninsular Malaysia.
- Strengthening cooperation networks among tourism entrepreneurs.
- Attracting more domestic tourists to Sarawak.
Homestay Santubong is known for its coastal charm, cultural traditions, and proximity to Mount Santubong, while Homestay Gua Niah offers visitors a chance to explore the famous Niah Caves and surrounding natural landscapes. Both clusters provide immersive experiences that highlight Sarawak’s rich heritage and biodiversity.
Organisers have encouraged the public to attend and support the programme, noting that it provides a valuable platform for Sarawak entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services.
The initiative also reflects Sarawak’s broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism and community-based economic development.
By bringing Sarawak’s homestay tourism to Kuantan, the SUS programme demonstrates how cultural and heritage-based experiences can be marketed effectively to wider audiences, strengthening Sarawak’s position as a unique destination within Malaysia.
