KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Samarahan Food and Cultural Festival (SFCF) 2026 has once again proven its significance as a community event that fosters unity and togetherness among residents of diverse backgrounds.
Organised by the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), the festival combined cultural showcases, recreational activities, and sporting events to strengthen bonds across the district.
Deputy Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Dato’ Idris Buang, highlighted the festival’s role in bringing communities together.
He noted that the event not only enlivened the atmosphere of Kota Samarahan but also created a platform for consensus and cooperation among people of different races and cultures.
According to him, SFCF has become a much-anticipated annual event, offering programmes that benefit families and communities alike.
“SFCF is not just a festival but also a medium to strengthen family ties, strengthen unity and attract more visitors from within and outside Kota Samarahan,” he said during his address on the tenth night of the festival at the Desa Ilmu MPKS Visitor Market.
The closing weekend featured the SFCF Night Run 2026, which drew 220 participants for both the 3-kilometre Fun Walk and the 7-kilometre Fun Run categories.
The event promoted healthy living while adding vibrancy to the festival’s finale. Thousands of visitors gathered to witness the run and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
In addition to the Night Run, prizes were awarded to winners of the Autoshow Competition 2026, showcasing creativity and innovation in automotive design.
The evening culminated in a lucky draw, where the main prize – a Perodua Axia Automatic – was sponsored by the Muara Tuang DUN branch of SABERKAS. The presentation was officiated by Dato’ Idris Buang, who also serves as the Muara Tuang assemblyman.
The festival’s success reflects MPKS’s commitment to community development through initiatives that integrate culture, sports, and entrepreneurship.
By providing a platform for cultural expression and recreational activities, SFCF continues to strengthen social cohesion while enhancing Kota Samarahan’s appeal as a destination for visitors.
