SIA Flight Delayed After Passenger Abuses Crew, Escorted Off Plane

SIA Flight Delayed After Passenger Abuses Crew, Escorted Off Plane

SINGAPORE – A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from Singapore to Shanghai faced a significant delay after a passenger verbally and physically abused the cabin crew, prompting the pilots to return the plane to the gate. The incident occurred on board Flight SQ826 on Feb 6, just as the aircraft was taxiing for take-off.

In response to media queries, an SIA spokesperson confirmed that the unruly passenger, whose identity was not disclosed for confidentiality reasons, was removed from the flight along with their companion. The spokesperson emphasized that the safety and well-being of their employees are paramount.

“The safety and respect of our staff are crucial. SIA does not tolerate any form of unruly or abusive behaviour, whether on the ground or in the air,” the airline representative stated.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 1.15 am, was delayed by 1 hour and 46 minutes, finally leaving Changi Airport at 3.01 am. The disruptive passenger and their companion were handed over to local authorities for further action.

While incidents of unruly passengers remain rare, SIA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for both passengers and crew.
