KUCHING – Firefighters from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call regarding an insect nest at Kem Pakit on 17 June.
The incident was reported at 8.34 pm and involved a bee colony located near the officers’ residential quarters within the camp.
The operation was led by PBK II (TBK I) Elijah Tiyit, who acted as the commander on site. The team deployed an EMRS vehicle to the location, which was approximately seven kilometres from the station. No other agencies were involved in the operation.
Upon arrival, the commander conducted a size-up of the situation. The bee nest was found on a tree close to the residential area, posing a potential hazard to personnel and families living nearby. Equipped with full personal protective gear, the team used a flame unit to safely destroy the nest.
The operation was completed without complications, and no injuries were reported. Once the nest was fully removed and the area confirmed safe, the team returned to the station.
The report was initially lodged by P/Sjn Mohd Hafiz, who contacted the station directly. His prompt action ensured that the matter was addressed quickly, preventing possible risks to residents in the vicinity.
This incident highlights the Fire and Rescue Department’s commitment to public safety, extending beyond fire emergencies to include pest control and hazard management.
