The event, organised by JVY Event Management in collaboration with Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), is expected to attract around 2,000 participants from diverse backgrounds.

On 8 July, representatives from JVY Event Management paid a courtesy call on Datuk Bandar Kuching Utara, Yang Berbahagia Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, to discuss strategic cooperation for the upcoming programme.

The delegation was led by Managing Director Jee Kouk Hiong, accompanied by Liew Leong Yee from NutriGold.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the organisers and DBKU to ensure the smooth execution of the event.

Both parties emphasised the importance of community involvement and highlighted the role of such initiatives in fostering unity and patriotism.

The Merdeka Spirit Run coincides with the national celebrations of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, aiming to embody values of togetherness and civic pride.

Organisers believe the programme will not only encourage healthy lifestyles but also create a festive atmosphere in the city centre.

DBKU reiterated its support for private sector initiatives that deliver high-impact programmes benefiting the community.

The council noted that events like the Merdeka Spirit Run contribute to its vision of making Kuching a Beautiful, Clean, Safe, Smart and Sustainable city.

Beyond the run itself, the event is expected to feature activities designed to engage participants and spectators alike.

Such programmes are seen as vital in promoting social cohesion, encouraging public participation, and enhancing Kuching’s reputation as a vibrant urban hub.

Community events tied to national celebrations often serve as platforms for reinforcing shared identity and collective values.

The Merdeka Spirit Run is anticipated to be one of the highlights of Kuching’s calendar this year, drawing families, youth groups, and fitness enthusiasts to Padang Merdeka.

As preparations continue, organisers and DBKU are working closely to ensure that logistics, safety measures, and participant engagement are well managed.

With strong backing from both the private and public sectors, the event is poised to deliver a memorable experience that reflects the spirit of Merdeka and Malaysia Day.
