SRI AMAN – Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called to a residential area in Sri Aman early Wednesday morning after a large snake was discovered inside a car engine.
The incident occurred at No. 512 Taman Suria, Jalan Brayun, with the emergency call received at 6.23am. A team from BBP Sri Aman was dispatched promptly, led by Operation Commander PB Ben Robson.
The team arrived equipped with EMRS BMY 4446 machinery and full protective gear to ensure safe handling of the situation.
Upon arrival, officers found a snake measuring approximately three metres coiled within the engine compartment of the complainant’s vehicle.
The reptile posed a potential danger to both the car owner and nearby residents, prompting immediate action.
Using two snake trap units, the team carefully secured the animal. The operation was conducted with precision to avoid harm to both the officers and the snake.
Once captured, the reptile was released back into its natural habitat, away from residential areas. No other agencies were involved in the operation, and no senior officers were present at the site.
The Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the situation was resolved without incident, and the team returned safely to the station after completing the task.
Snake encounters are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in residential areas close to forested land. Authorities have consistently reminded the public to remain cautious and to contact emergency services immediately if such wildlife is found near homes or vehicles.
The department has also highlighted the importance of avoiding direct confrontation with snakes, as improper handling can lead to serious injury.
Residents are advised to keep surroundings clear of clutter and vegetation that may attract reptiles seeking shelter.
This latest case in Sri Aman underscores the readiness of the Fire and Rescue Department to respond to diverse emergencies beyond fire incidents. Their swift and professional handling of the situation ensured public safety while preserving wildlife.
