KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, visited the residence of YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri in Taman Serira, Kuching, on 19 June to pay their respects following the passing of her husband, Datuk Kamil bin Misuari.
Their daughter, Sharifah Fariah, joined them during the visit. Upon arrival, the governor and Toh Puan were received by Nancy Shukri and members of the bereaved family. They spent time with relatives and attendees, offering condolences and sharing in the solemn occasion.
Tun Wan Junaidi also joined family members, friends, and worshippers in performing the funeral prayer (solat jenazah), which was led by Sahibul Fadilah Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Haji Ahmad Fauzi, Chief Imam of Sarawak.
Before departing, the governor and Toh Puan expressed heartfelt sympathies to Nancy Shukri and her family.
They prayed that Allah SWT grant mercy and forgiveness to the late Datuk Kamil, accept his good deeds, and place his soul among the faithful. They also wished strength and perseverance for the family during this time of grief.
The governor’s presence at the residence reflected the close ties between Sarawak’s leaders and the community, underscoring the values of compassion and solidarity in moments of loss.
Such visits are seen as a gesture of unity, offering comfort to families while reinforcing the bond between public figures and citizens.
Funeral prayers in Islam are a collective act of remembrance and supplication, performed to seek blessings for the deceased.
The gathering at Taman Serira highlighted the importance of communal support, with leaders and residents coming together to honour the memory of Datuk Kamil.
This occasion also demonstrated the governor’s commitment to maintaining personal connections beyond his official duties, showing respect for longstanding relationships and the shared cultural traditions of Sarawak.
