KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, paid his last respects to the late Datuk Kamil bin Misuari on 19 June 2026.
The Premier visited the family residence of Datuk Kamil, husband of the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and Member of Parliament for Santubong, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy binti Haji Shukri. His arrival was warmly received by Nancy Shukri and members of the bereaved family.
Earlier in the day, the body of Datuk Kamil arrived at Kuching International Airport at 1.40pm before being taken to his home in Taman Serira, Jalan Menggris, Petra Jaya.
The funeral arrangements later continued with burial at the Samariang Islamic Cemetery. During his visit, the premier expressed his condolences to Nancy Shukri and her family.
He prayed that Allah SWT grant mercy upon the deceased, forgive his sins, and place his soul among the faithful.
The premier also conveyed his hope that the family would be blessed with strength and patience in facing their loss.
The passing of Datuk Kamil marks a significant moment for the community, as he was closely connected to Sarawak’s political and social circles.
His contributions and presence were valued by many, and his departure has left a void among family, friends, and colleagues.
The Premier’s attendance at the funeral highlighted the strong bonds of respect and solidarity between Sarawak’s leaders and the people they serve.
Such gestures are seen as important in reinforcing compassion and unity during times of grief. Funeral rites in Islam, including solat jenazah and burial, are deeply rooted in communal support and remembrance.
The gathering at Taman Serira and later at Samariang reflected this tradition, with family members, friends, and community leaders coming together to honour the memory of Datuk Kamil.
This occasion also demonstrated the premier’s commitment to maintaining personal ties beyond his official duties, showing empathy and respect for longstanding relationships.
His presence offered comfort to the bereaved family and underscored the values of compassion and shared humanity that remain central to Sarawak’s leadership.
