KUCHING – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg received a courtesy visit from Major General Mohd Sobirin bin Haji Mohd Yusof, Commander of the 1st Malaysian Infantry Division, at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on 26 June.
The meeting was held to reinforce cooperation between the Sarawak government and the military division, with discussions focusing on security matters and development initiatives.
Both parties exchanged views on strengthening surveillance along Sarawak’s borders, recognising the importance of integrated strategies to safeguard the state.
Updates on the current security situation were shared, particularly regarding border control. Ensuring Sarawak remains safe and stable was highlighted as a priority, with emphasis placed on adopting more effective monitoring systems to address potential challenges.
The talks also touched on infrastructure development in border regions. Strategic collaboration between the state government and the military was seen as vital in supporting both security operations and the welfare of local communities living near the frontier.
Such initiatives aim to enhance facilities while ensuring residents benefit from improved safety and accessibility.
Major General Mohd Sobirin expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Government and its agencies for their continued support of the 1st Infantry Division.
He noted that the division’s responsibilities in maintaining state security are made more effective through strong cooperation with civil authorities.
Also present during the visit were Brigadier General Khairuddin bin Zakaria, Commander of the 3rd Brigade, and Brigadier General Azman bin Md Zain, Commander of the 31st Brigade.
Their attendance underscored the collective commitment of the armed forces to work closely with the state leadership in addressing security concerns.
