The project, managed by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), is aimed at strengthening the road network in the Sibu Division.

The Deputy Premier was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapa’ee, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Port Development Sarawak, Datu Chiew Chee Yau, and senior JKR officers.

A detailed briefing was delivered by Sibu Division Engineer Ir. Chieng Siong Ming, who outlined the scope and current progress of the works.

The project involves constructing a new 6.172-kilometre access road linking Jalan Kemuyang to Jalan Pasai Siong, built to JKR R3 standards.

Once completed, the road is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and support socio-economic growth in surrounding communities.

As of now, the project has achieved 22.71 percent physical progress and is scheduled for completion in September 2027.

Despite being in the early stages, the works are progressing according to plan, with contractors and consultants working closely with JKR to ensure compliance with specifications and timelines.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasised that the project reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and high-quality road infrastructure.

He noted that improved connectivity is vital for boosting economic activities, enhancing mobility, and raising the overall quality of life for residents.

The Deputy Premier also expressed appreciation to JKR, consultants, and contractors for their dedication and cooperation in ensuring smooth implementation.

He highlighted that the success of such projects depends on strong collaboration between government agencies and private partners, all working towards the shared goal of community development.

Road upgrades in Sibu are part of a wider state initiative to modernise infrastructure across Sarawak. By investing in long-term projects such as the Teku–Kemuyang–Pasai Siong link, the government aims to create sustainable growth opportunities, improve accessibility, and strengthen regional integration.

For residents, the project promises not only improved travel conditions but also greater opportunities for trade, education, and social engagement.

The new road is expected to serve as a catalyst for development, ensuring that Sibu continues to grow as a vital hub in Sarawak’s economic landscape.
