The development, overseen by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), involves the building of an integrated school complex with 18 classrooms, dormitories, teachers’ housing, and a wide range of supporting facilities.

The Deputy Premier was welcomed by JKR Sarawak Director, Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, along with senior officers from the department.

During the briefing, Sibu Division Engineer Ir. Chieng Siong Ming outlined the scope of the project and reported that construction had reached 64.72 percent completion, ahead of schedule.

The project is expected to be completed by June 2027, though the contractor has committed to finishing earlier, by the end of 2026.

The school complex includes an academic block with classrooms, laboratories, workshops, administrative offices, a surau, assembly square, and canteen.

In addition, dormitory facilities are being built to accommodate 200 male and 200 female students, each supported by warden houses. A dining hall with a capacity of 400 students is also part of the plan.

To support educators, two blocks of Class F teachers’ houses comprising 20 units are under construction, providing more comfortable living arrangements for staff.

Other facilities include a guardhouse, covered walkways, student waiting areas, a playground, perimeter fencing, courts, and landscaping works.

Built-in furniture and laboratory fittings are also being installed to ensure the school is fully equipped upon completion.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasised that the project would provide comprehensive facilities to meet the academic and welfare needs of students while ensuring teachers have suitable accommodation.

He praised the contractor’s commitment to delivering the project ahead of schedule and commended all parties involved for their efforts in ensuring smooth implementation.

The Deputy Premier noted that the new school would play a vital role in supporting education in Selangau and surrounding areas, offering modern facilities that enhance learning and student development.

He highlighted that such projects reflect the government’s dedication to improving access to quality education and strengthening community infrastructure.

The construction of SMK Selangau is part of Sarawak’s broader initiative to upgrade educational facilities across the state, ensuring that rural and semi-urban communities benefit from improved infrastructure.

Once completed, the school is expected to serve as a hub for academic excellence and community growth in the region.
