MIRI – The Sarawak Level Ma’al Hijrah Celebration 1448H/2026M was held at the Miri Indoor Stadium on 17 June, drawing the attendance of His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi.
The couple’s arrival at 10.30 am was warmly received by the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, accompanied by his daughter Puan Dayang Nurjihan.
Also present were senior figures, including Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, Governor of the Sarawak Islamic Council, alongside his wife, Datin Hajah Jamilah binti Haji Said, and a host of dignitaries from state and federal agencies.
The event carried the theme “Ummah Maju Makmur” (Prosperous Ummah), symbolising the aspiration for a united and progressive Muslim community.
Proceedings began with the rendition of the state anthem Ibu Pertiwiku, followed by a nasheed performance.
The audience was then treated to Quranic recitation by Puan Nur Syakura binti Mohamad Musa, the national champion of the 2026 Quran Recitation Council.
A session led by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Haji Muhamad Tamizi bin Haji Hussein from the Darul Hana-MIS Quran Development Centre highlighted the values of hijrah, emphasising the importance of knowledge, morality and competitiveness in shaping a resilient society.
In his welcoming remarks, Datuk Haji Misnu expressed gratitude to the Governor and Toh Puan for their presence, noting that their support strengthens the mission of the Sarawak Islamic Council in advancing the ummah through education and moral development.
The Premier of Sarawak, in his address, echoed appreciation for the Governor’s attendance, describing it as a reflection of leadership commitment to fostering unity and nurturing a society grounded in faith and prosperity.
He also prayed for the continued health and strength of the governor and Toh Puan in their service to Sarawak.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Ma’al Hijrah Awards to 14 recipients across various categories, recognising individuals, organisations and institutions for their contributions to Islamic development in the state.
The programme concluded with prayers led by Ustaz Haji Mohamad Ihsan bin Haji Haidzir, Deputy Imam Besar of Sarawak, followed by another nasyid performance.
The event ended with the singing of Negaraku and Ibu Pertiwiku, marking a dignified close to the celebration.
The Governor and Toh Puan extended their appreciation to all parties involved in ensuring the success of the event.
They also expressed hopes that the spirit of hijrah would inspire the community to abandon wrongdoing, pursue goodness, expand knowledge and continue building a prosperous Sarawak.
